What exactly "is" Pet Scribbles?
Pet Scribbles is a unique line of vintage-style handmade greeting cards, tags and magnets. A vintage feel with a modern twist, these are handmade by me in my home studio, in Little Egg Harbor, New Jersey.
I adore Victorian imagery, vintage illustrations and ephemera, always have. I collect them, fix them up where needed, and combine them into digital collages or greeting cards. Sometimes I'll have an image staring at me for years, but just don't come up with a card idea that I love. Other times, I see an image and know instantly what the card will be. Some of my cards are serious, some are funny, some have bad puns...just like me.
Super brief history of me?
In my past life, I was a trained classical flautist, cancer survivor, lover of big 80s hair, city dweller in Boston then Philadelphia, and had a great career at a music college in Boston for 16 years. Through all of that, I loved making things, especially cards.
The first card I made . . .
My first card of note was one I made for my mother (when I was a wee one) for Mother's Day. She saved it and now I have it. The back says "Whole Made Cards" written in crayon. I obviously knew the importance of handmade way back then...just got the words wrong!
I started Pet Scribbles because . . .
When my first cat passed away many years ago, I received a handful of sympathy cards from caring friends and family. A few were "pet" sympathy cards, and all of those were the same - i.e. I received 5 identical cards. I felt there was a need for pet sympathy cards, written and designed by someone who truly understood the loss of a beloved pet, and I began Pet Scribbles as a businesss with my handmade pet sympathy cards before branching into other card categories shortly thereafter.
I've been in business since . . .
I began selling on my own website in 2005. Since 2007, my cards have been in independent gift shops in the United States, and I started my Etsy shop on May 27, 2009.
Do I accept custom orders?
Yes! See my shop "policies" section for details.
Can I personalize your cards?
Yes, and I quite often do! Some edits are free, and some edits are an additional charge, depending on the request. See my shop policies for pricing and specific examples.
Do I have pets?
Sure do! At the present time, my husband and I are "owned by" two cats: a 13-year old Ragdoll girl named Lulu (the Chief Feline Officer, or CFO, of Pet Scribbles); and a 18-ish years young formerly feral kitty named Aliza-Loo Doolittle. Aliza enjoys a fulfilling retirement doing very little work (aka Doolittle).
